Learning in Retirement (LIR) is a member-led organization. LIR and the members themselves benefit greatly from taking on activities through committee involvement. This also allows individuals to become more familiar with a smaller group of people who have similar interests. LIR benefits greatly when members share their interests and expertise by getting involved. There are three committees that members can join: Administration and Finance, Curriculum, and Membership and Promotion. The Steering Committee is made up of the elected officers and committee chairs.
The Steering Committee members include the officers, past president and the committee chairpersons. The UWO liaison is a non-voting member. They discuss issues as they arise and approve the budget to keep the organization viable. It meets every two months on the third Friday of September, November, January, March and May. Meetings are held at UW Oshkosh in Lincoln Hall. Meeting time is 10 a.m. – Noon. The chairperson for the Steering Committee is John Scheelk.
