Both sessions will be instructed by Matthew Mattila, ACSW, CISW, who has more than 15 years of experience with children and families in child welfare and family court services agencies; and more than 15 years of experience as a social work lecturer and trainer. His practice interests include child welfare, forensic social work and adult education. Mattila is committed to helping prepare the next generation of social workers to meet the challenges of effective practice.

Why should I enroll?

The program will help participants understand the process of applying for Wisconsin social work certification, the purpose, structure and content areas of the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) certification/licensure exam. You will be able to apply recognized test-taking strategies to enable you to successfully complete the level of ASWB exam you will be taking and recognize how to select the correct answer to several sample exam questions that will build your confidence for successful completion of the ASWB exam.


How does the program work?

The instructor will provide a detailed overview of the application process for Wisconsin social work certification/licensure and the ASWB exam. The program will cover test-taking strategies and include sample questions from all four levels of the exam that correspond to the four types of social work certification in Wisconsin (bachelor’s, master’s, advanced generalist and clinical).


How much does the program cost?

The program cost is $75 for current UW students and $90 for non-students.


How do I apply?

Registration for this program is available online, and there is a different registration form for each workshop.


When do I have to register by?

Registration must be completed by Feb. 9, 2018, for the Feb. 17 workshop; and by Feb. 20, 2018, for the Feb. 27 workshop. After these dates, please call Online and Continuing Education to determine program availability (920) 424-1129 or email

Cancellation Policy: Cancellations received 10 full business days or more before the start of a program will receive a full refund, minus a $35 processing fee. No refunds will be made for cancellations received less than 10 full business days before the program begins. UW Oshkosh reserves the right to cancel any program due to insufficient enrollment, as well as the right to limit enrollment due to excessive demand.
